Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

A review by PreTitlesSequence

The fourth film in the Mission: Impossible series starring Tom Cruise, Paula Patton, Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner was released in December, and today I saw it at the cinema.

In Ghost Protocol: Ethan Hunt's (Cruise) IMF are blamed for a bombing on the Kremlin in Russia, and must stop a nuclear extremist from setting off a missile and starting global nuclear war.

I hadn't seen the first three films, but Ghost Protocol was a standalone story; with hardly any reference to the events of the first three films. From a crunchy pre-titles sequence (I know!) in Moscow to a race to find the nuclear codes for the missile in Dubai, to a party in Mumbai, the film didn't let up. There are some seriously good action sequences (too many to name, but a chase in a sandstorm in Dubai was my favourite), one mind-boggling stunt (Tom Cruise climbs round the Burj Khalifa, tallest building in the world, with a rope tied to his waist) and great acting: Simon Pegg as computer-whiz Benji was the stand-out performance, stealing most of the best lines (or maybe just because I like Simon Pegg's films) but the rest of the performances were all solid.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol is an exciting, tense edge-of-your-seat thriller, that you really should see. Highly recommended!

Happy New Year!!

Happy new year to all our readers!

2011 has been a very eventful year for Whovians. A (very) brief recap of this year follows.

After one of the most highly rated Christmas special yet, the sixth series was cut into two segments, with an arc-heavy storyline. The identity of River Song was discovered, and the Doctor is now believed to be dead by the majority of the universe.

Sadly, The Sarah Jane Adventures came to a close when Elizabeth Sladen passed away. Nicholas Courtney also passed away, and there was a special tribute moment for him in the series finale.

Amy and Rory will be leaving the TARDIS in the upcoming series, which will be airing in autumn. Filming for the series 7 will begin next month.

Geronimo!
