Happy New Year!!

Happy new year to all our readers!

 2011 has been a very eventful year for Whovians. A (very) brief recap of this year follows.

After one of the most highly rated Christmas special yet, the sixth series was cut into two segments, with an arc-heavy storyline. The identity of River Song was discovered, and the Doctor is now believed to be dead by the majority of the universe.

Sadly, The Sarah Jane Adventures came to a close when Elizabeth Sladen passed away. Nicholas Courtney also passed away, and there was a special tribute moment for him in the series finale.

Amy and Rory will be leaving the TARDIS in the upcoming series, which will be airing in autumn. Filming for the series 7 will begin next month.

Karen Gillan on Amy and Rory's future

In the Doctor Who: Brilliant Book, Karen Gillan has shed some light on the subject of Amy and Rory's future.

 

'I don't want Amy to pop up again every so often, because for me it would take away from the big, emotional goodbye.' she says, '...Steven Moffat wants it as well. When Amy actually, properly leaves, we both really want it to be for good.'

And on what that big, emotional goodbye could be: 'I think it could be done, if you tackled it right... death could be an option.'

Moffat Explains Delay

In the 2012 edition of The Brilliant Book, Steven Moffat explains why we're waiting until Autumn for Series 7.

“The truth behind the delay next year is: why are we killing ourselves and risking compromising the show, in order to go out in the middle of summer? I’m sick of it. I’m sick of standing in the blazing sunshine, with a barbecue fork in my hand, knowing that Doctor Who is coming on any minute,” he said. “Six o’clock on a sunny Saturday is the middle of the afternoon, whereas six o’clock on a winter or autumn Saturday is dark and exciting”

Moffat also mentioned that Amy and Rory will be back in Series 7, but will not be in the 2011 Christmas special. More appearance from River Song is “Dependent on Alex Kingston”.

He also teased for the 50th anniversary. “Epic, huge, massive, indulgent… all your treats at once…I guarantee you it’s going to be the best year ever to be a Doctor Who fan. We’re going to be in production for longer than ever, just to do everything that we intend to do”.

Doctor Who on Radio Times

The Doctor Who finale has made the cover of the Radio Times, featuring the Doctor, River, Amy, and Rory, all wearing the mysterious eyepatches.

We've gotten a summary, quote, and details for The Girl Who Waited, and now we get the same for The God Complex, written by Toby Whithouse.

Synopsis:

The Doctor, Amy and Rory are on their way to Ravan-Skala. Legend has it that the people there are 600-feet tall. But then the TARDIS is yanked off course and drops them off in an ordinary – albeit deserted – hotel instead. “How can you be excited about a rubbish hotel on a rubbish bit of Earth?”asks Amy. But this hotel isn’t as ordinary or as empty as it first appears…
There’s a room packed with party balloons. In another, a gorilla uses the en suite bathroom. There are clowns. And Weeping Angels. All manner of nightmares stalk the corridors. And it isn’t even a hotel. It’s just been made to look like one. But who would mock-up an Earth hotel? “You’re going to die here,” the guests are told. “Well, they certainly didn’t mention that in the brochure,” replies the Doctor.

Summary for The Girl Who Waited

Doctor Who Magazine has revealed the summary for episode 10, The Girl Who Waited, written by Tom MacRae.

The Doctor takes Amy and Rory for a relaxing break on Apalapucia, not realising that the planet is ravaged by a deadly disease – one that threatens even the life of the Doctor himself. But that’s not the biggest problem: Amy’s gone and got herself trapped in a very unusual hospital. How long will she have to wait before the Doctor comes back for her this time?

A quote was also given:

AMY: Apalapucia. What a beautiful word.
THE DOCTOR: Beautiful word, beautiful world. Apalapucia – voted number two planet in the top ten greatest destinations for the discerning intergalactic traveller.
RORY: Why couldn’t we go to number one?
